Premier financial services group, Discovery, has partnered with leading South African sports and education charity the JAG Foundation, to host seven-time Tour de France champion, Lance Armstrong’s ‘Lance for Life Tour’ in March 2010.

The ‘Discovery Lance for Life Tour 2010’ sees Lance Armstrong along with local and international sporting celebrities embark on an initiative to raise awareness for the JAG Foundation as well as promote healthy living in South Africa. The itinerary includes a visit to a local school, cycling with SA’s top business personalities as well as an exclusive banquet dinner and breakfast.

Elana Meyer, JAG Foundation CEO enthuses, “We are committed to empowering South Africa’s youth through sport and the partnership with Discovery gives us the opportunity to increase our reach and make an even greater impact within local communities.

”Hylton Kallner, Discovery’s Chief Marketing Officer said: “Discovery’s core purpose is to make people healthier and to enhance and protect their lives. In addition to raising funds for JAG, an important component of Lance’s tour to South Africa is also to promote healthy living, which - like Discovery’s own Vitality wellness programme - encourages people to improve their lives by making healthy lifestyle changes. Lance is passionate about helping people prevent illness and reap the rewards of healthy living and we are proud to support him in this aim”.

The City of Cape Town has also shown its support and aligned itself with the foundation ahead of Lance’s arrival. “We believe in a city that creates opportunities for its people,” states Pieter Cronje, City of Cape Town’s Head of Communications. He continues, “The ‘Discovery Lance for Life Tour 2010’ enhances the work the JAG Foundation has done thus far and together we aim to keep momentum and create sustainability for 2010 and beyond.”

Leading South African cycling retailer, Cycle Lab has also come on board to support the ‘Discovery Lance for Life’ initiative and have been instrumental in the overall organisation of the event as well as securing sponsorships.
